DAG>> I've been toying with the idea of putting together an        Atari 8-bit syste again for some time now. I remember on the        last system I had, a 130XE, tha        ...        >>anybody knows. Also wondering how easy it might be to set up        hardware on o to enable an ethernet link, or if any software        might've been developed for that might allow something like SLIP        or PPP over a serial or parallel        ...        >>connection. If I'm going to use money on antiquated hardware        I might as we make sure that it's going to be somewhat useful in        this day and age for me.               >> God the nostalgia for the system that I first learned        computing and cod on. :) What did you guys start out with?               First system an RCA 1802 Cosmac Super Elf. Programed in HEX.               Went to a TRS-80 Model 1, with 4K rom and 4K ram. Eventually ran        it up to 48K ram W/expansion interface, hard disk, RS-232 and        modem. Oh, and doubled the clock speed with my own design. Added        the lower case mod also.               Rewrote the ROM IO routines in machine language to emulate much        of the TRS-80 Mod IV, and also to speed it up a bit. Some        inefficient code cleaned up. Learned the machine language        programming after I learned basic, as below.               It came with the best computer programming book ever written,        IMO.               Learned machine language programming on the Altair and Imsai,        also assembly language, at the U of Toledo, using a cross        compiler.               Too dang tired to learn another system. I just program in batch        language and QBasic or Quick Basic now.                     BOB KLAHN bob.klahn@sev.org http://home.toltbbs.com/bobklahn              ...
