   I think it's more because it's weird in an area where it doesn't have to be   
   for the story to make sense. You expect the ghosts and the afterlife and   
   everything else in the story, because otherwise it wouldn't be a story. But   
   they change something so small and so unrelated to the main "weird" premise   
   that it doesn't need to be? That might be what's ticking you off.
