   Hello Rob!

** On Saturday 09.08.25 - 09:10, you wrote to me:

RM> I was just on the web site checking out their plans and there's
RM> nothing there worth changing over to. ...

Yep.. plan offerings seem to have remained the same for a while
   now.

RM> Actually, I don't think they even offer my plan anymore,
RM> nothing much under $50 that gives everything I have that
RM> isn't just for new customers.

Correct. I have a $15/mo plan (which was originally voice +
500MB data) ..but then they offered an option to switch
entirely to DATA and get double the data, which I did. Now,
the 15$/mo plan and any option to go 100% data is long gone for
   new customers.

AA>> Good to hear that they threw in the USA calling. It's not
    >> available like that anymore. Now, it's a special add-on.

RM> Yes, I looked for that as well tonight and, you're right, no
RM> plans offer it as part of the basic.

The usa-calling can be handy when some contacts inherit phones
from outside the country. That can be the case especially when
people travel during the summer. I have one contact that
recently moved from usa to canada. They are still operating
with T-Mobile. 1-410-845-XXXX (probably no roaming charges?)
..and that's a call to the states that I can't do.

AA>> Speaking of USA-calling, I recently looked to sign up a senior
    >> friend to NonameMobile. They advertised (and still do) a $19/
    >> mo that includes USA-calling. So, I purchased the NonameMobile
    >> SIM. ...

RM> Yes, you see those $19 signs in the stores all the time.
RM> It looks like a great deal - I was tempted to switch but hate
RM> changing from something that's working well for me for a couple
RM> of dollars a month - but I never checked into it far enough
RM> to find out what you did.

A friend of mine is encouring to me call Nonamemobile (I will
reach a PCmobile rep, btw) .. nd cry foul for false advertising
and insisting that they give me the USA-calling as advertised.

AA>> For me, the situation simply started getting worse and worse.
    >> I have an underground feed from a pole on the property but ..

RM> I'm surprised I don't have more problems.. The phone line is above
RM> ground and looks to be in terrible condition and I'm probably
RM> close to 2 miles from the Bell Box. To clarify, only the line to
    RM> my house is ratty.

It's probably getting a good chance to dry out faster than if
it were underground. I have a friend in the Muskokas who also
had a land line for a while, and Bell simply left the run from
the road to the house just laying on the ground beside the
driveway. Worked well. Rarely a problem. The landline
service is long gone based on some dispute with charges years
   ago though.

RM> The main line is in that heavy phone cable that
RM> they run. Seems to me a while back when they worked on mine it had
RM> to do with ground wires at my house. If I recall, there were two of
RM> them and he ended up cutting one of them to fix things.

I think one cable like that has 4 pairs (tip-ring) to work with
as substitutes before they have to replace the whole cable.
