   Depends what BBS software you're accessing.  Some software, such as Synchronet   
   will let you access netmail using an email client.  Other software (e.g.   
   Mystic) will only let you access local messages via POP/SMTP.   
      
   I'm not aware of a way to a way to access echomail via POP/SMTP, but they can   
   be accessed on a lot of systems using NNTP with a newsreader.  Both Synchronet   
   and Mystic support NNTP access, and other systems could use JAMNNTPD.  On your   
   end, Thunderbird can be configured to access NNTP.
