   A Mac Mini still needs mains power - as does the network connection.   
      
   Thinkpad laptops make nice BBSes. Mine, combined with a small UPS,   
   stays up for several hours during power issues. If I felt inspired, I   
   could use my phone's hot spot capability to send mail packets out, but   
   people wouldn't be able to connect.
