If BBBS can do the above, it is VERY possible.              I've never used Linux at home, so I can be of no assitance here. :-)                     > As for Windows.. if you're running a 32bit version of Windows, it should also       > be possible. 64 bit windows gave up all support for 16 bit programs. So it is       > not the fault of BBBS, but Windows itself.              Yes it is. BBBS for Windows is a 32 bit windows native program, hence it will       not work with DOS based doors running in a "dos box". It runs fine on the       local screen, but Windows will not let you pass that information to the Telnet       node. So the user will be "blind" :-(              > Most people dedicate a somewhat simple system to running a BBS (as far as       > specs are concerned). If you have less than 4gb RAM, there is no need to run       > a 64bit operating system.              Well.. it depends on how your setup is. I'm not "most people" :-) I Have a HP       Proliant ML350 G6 system with Windows Server 2008 R2 (64 bit), and it handles       just about everything except klient computing in my home. My BBBS system is       running on a VMware VM and takes almost nothing as far as RAM and CPU       resources from the iron. :-)              > Using a 32 bit version of Windows should work fine       > running DOS doors with any BBS software, without the use of any kind of DOS       > emulator whatsoever.              It does not. The Native BBBS (32 bits) for Windows will not work with DOS       doors. I have discussed it with Kim Heino, and he can confirm it here if he       reads this echo.              You MAY get it to work if you run an old DOS based BBBS verison on a 32 bit       Windows platform. However BBBS for DOS is no longer compiled, and you will be       stuck with version 4.00, since that was the last DOS version made.              > Maybe that will give some "hope" to new coming sysops wanting to run BBBS       > with DOS door games. But it probably shouldn't be passed around that it's       > completely impossible -- unless the BBS software itself is at fault for the       > reasons.              I don't want to take away any hopes to get this to work out there, I'm just       trying to bring some realism into it. If I'm wrong, and I have misundertood       Kim, fine with me, but until such time that somone succeed and live to tell me       how to do it, I trust the information i have been given. Sorry..              Take care..              rgds       Torbjørn              --- BBBS/NT v4.10 Dada-1        * Origin: Circle Of Protection (2:211/37)    |
