      >>I agree. I have never used a BBBS script that I have not compiled myself. And       >> never will in the future. If the author does not trust me with his source, I       >> don't trust him/her. Simple as that. It's got nothng to do with Rudi.              >I think that's a pretty stiff way to look at things.              And for a reason... one being security, the BZ scripting is very powerfull,       and can be made to do almost ANYTHING to a BBBS system.. The other being the       experience with the scripting language itself. Kim has made changes over the       years, changes that SOMETIMES have required all the scripts to be recompiled.       If you then do not have the source, the compiled script is unusable, unless       you can get hold of the author to fix it for you. In this business authors       come and go and you may never be able to get hold of them?              I know, changes in BZ scripting has not been the case for the later releases       of BBBS, but it has been in the past, and MAY happen again, who knows?              > In the past a LOT of BBB utils were distributed with no source. It's not       > something new that Rudi just started :)              I didn't say so either. I have been talking to Rudi on my own system, and has       even trusted him with some BZ sources of my own.              > No one is saying you have to run his utilities, Torbjorn. In       > the same way, if he decides to release the source, good. If not, no big deal       > :)              No one can force me to run anything on my system, and when Rudi asked me to       test some of his things here, I _politely_ told him about my policy. I don't       really know him personally, honestly I don't know him at all really, and for       that reason I'm careful. I see him as a friend though. :-)              I deal with Imformation Security on a daily basis in my job. I may be more       carefull than normal for that reason, but in this "business" one can not trust       anyone. Recent events here in Fidonet also has learned me that even people I       thought I could trust, may not be worthy of my trust any more. So better to be       carefull and safe than careless and decepted?              You do it your way, I do it mine, and we are both happy. I think even Rudi is?       :-)              Have a nice day.              rgds       Torbjørn              --- BBBS/NT v4.10 Dada-1        * Origin: Circle Of Protection (2:211/37)    |
