   I think my original script that I used had a similar situation as yours.. This   
   one got news from 3 sources, only one required the username/password:   
      
   #!/bin/sh   
   cd /home/bbbs   
   ./bbbs bnntp w 1 host.echoes.net simsbury.net,uname,pw snippets.org ./bbbs   
   bnntp r 1 host.echoes.net simsbury.net,uname,pw snippets.org ./bbbs bogus r   
      
   I.e. only snippets.org required the auth. IIRC.  Now I'm using a free news   
   server at minmix.net or something like that :)
