Hello, All!              I have more news about BBBS WebBBS Interface and the problem running on       Windows XP.              My frend Chris is a Network Engineer operator, and hi told me this.              Hi Rudi,               Windows XP firewall is only useful if your laptop is directly connected to the       internet with out a NAT router in front. The router provided by your ISP       (which you configure to allow port forwarding) is acting as your firewall.        Because your router is filtering traffic from the internet to your home.              Now, if you need to open ports 1024 to 65535 for Passive FTP (PASV) to work,       then I suggest you not run anything else on the laptop except for your BBS.        That way you can minimise what ports are open within Windows XP.              This means you need to do the following to "harden" your laptop:              Disable inbound Terminal Services (done through the System applet in control       panel)       Disable is unbind File and Print sharing from your wireless/wired NIC       Disable any other service that is listening with the exception of the BBS              In short, if a port is not listening on your laptop, then you cannot be       attacked on that port. You only want the BBS to be listening and all other       ports disabled.                --- LoraBBS v2.99.41        * Origin: The Renovator BBS - Telnet: renovatorbbs.dyndns.org:5432 (2:292/650)    |
