   Hi Ian,

   >> One should be able to contact some nodes without any node_remap entries now.

The above is important.. check your settings in bcfg4
->local->general->OK_poll_flags. Maybe show us what you have there...

    >> and bcfg4://local/modem/dial is something like:

   > ~ATR | ,IBN
   > ~ATD | ,IP
   > ~ATD | ,ITN

I don't have the tildes in the first fields, that shouldn't matter though
(like ~ATR, I just have ATR).

   >,1:153/7715.0,BandMaster.tzo.com,Vancouver_BC,Irex_Hinton,bandmaster.tzo.com,3

   > then try polling 1:153/7715, I get a "can't find phone number" error.

As Kim mentioned to me with this beta that you can dial "most" nodes directly
without including them in the [node_remap] section... some don't work for me
either.. generally those systems who put their domain in the bbs name field
instead of using INA: did not work for me IIRC. I see that 1:153/7715 does
have an IBN flag though so I would have expected it to work.

Well, we all try to do what we can here in the echo... Don't ever be afraid to
ask questions :) Sometimes folks neglect to check out sysop.gui or it's text
equivalent sysop.txt, but I know somethings can be confusing in those
   documents.

   > I'd appreciate any suggestions from you as to what I might be doing wrong and
   > what I can improve.

   > Thanks :)

Try calling my system at 1:261/100 without putting me in the remap section..
either of my 1:261 (38 or 100) should work..

   Take care,
   Janis
