Hello Jeff!              Saturday February 14 2015 02:27, you wrote to All:               > I remember the days when a 300 baud modem was fast        > Now we're posting to the echos from cell phones.                     No, they were never fast but 9600 was compared to 1200 / 2400.              The later was used on a leased line between my home in a rural area (Roydon,       Essex, UK) connected to my office in outer London (Barking) that also gave be       an office phone extention so I could take the day off and still be available.       The modem was connected to our office system (a Cromemco running *nix called       Cromix) so that I could access all of the accounting programs/systems as well       as other data such as software registrations for the different vendors we       supported such as Digial Research, Microsoft, Micro Focus. Aston Tate etc.       I ran the first distribution company in Europe for books, magazines and       software related to micros or what is now called PC's. Also run the first       computer shop in Europe that sold such advanced micros as North Star, Apple I        II, Commodore Pet etc. The Pet did sell fairly well , heck I used come in on a       Sunday morning to do the paper work and leave the door open (having had the       door bell hit multi times) and still sell not less than 50 Pet's alone and       still complete the paperwork and leave by 14:00.                     Hmm, Still have one USR Courier All (+ fax etc) model left which reminds me       must remember to put it up on eBay as it is just picking up dust that I have        to       keep clean.                            Vince              --- Mageia Linux v4/Mbse v1.0.4/GoldED+/LNX 1.1.5-b20120229        * Origin: Air Applewood, The Linux Gateway to the UK (2:250/1)    |
