   BBBS and Telnet Logins?
   28 Jan 15 20:46:24

   >> In BBBS is it possible to limit the time BBBS will wait at a telnet login
   >> prompt before the login is aborted and the node closed?

   >That's a good question... Did you hear back from Kim about that?

Yes, and forwarded his response to you. He stated that BBBS is hardcoded to
wait 4 minutes at the login prompt before closing the node.

   >> Is there a way in BBBS to limit or prevent BBBS from opening up all
   >>available nodes via telnet or FTP login attempt? Currently BBBS opens up all
   >>available nodes based on a single incoming telnet IP.

   > I looked at my logs and the version I'm running doesn't do that from what I
   >can tell.. For instance, I ran a grep of an IP that had connected via telnet,
   >didn't log in,then disconnected, and I only found this IP in one log, which I
   >assumed meant he'd only connected to one node. What do your logs show? Do you
   >see the same IP in all logs like log3, log4, log5, etc. (or how ever many
   >nodes you are running?) With previous versions I ran, it was the same I
   >believe. I'm running the Linux version over here. This is an example of one
   >of those type connections today: 150128 14:36 Got telnet from
   >1.254.29.237:52931, spawning node 15. 150128 14:37 Closing telnet at node
   >15,0kB in, 0kB out. It would seem that only node 15 was opened above...

Here my IP log shows BBBS spawning multiple telnet nodes with all showing the
same source IP. Per a suggestion from Kim. I am running two seperate BBBS
daemons. One for HTTPD, FTPD, and RAW/BINKP and a seperate daemon for TELNETD.
As in "bbbs 2 2 telnetd:23". That should only make node #2 available for
telnet use. Leaving any other available nodes unavilable for telnet use. I
also inquired about upgrading to 20 nodes. Gots the upgrade app already
filled out and ready to be emailed to Kim. Sadly upgrading doesn't solve the
problem. It just makes for more available nodes. But may lessen the impact
somewhat. We shall see I guess.

I am currently running Windows 2003 and BBBS v4.10 Dada-1 here but am looking
to switch over to Ubuntu in the near future.
