   we've been using kubuntu here because the KDE interface is pretty similar to   
   winwhatever and folks trying it out find it more comfortable and familiar...   
   my 84yo (R.I.P.) father had no problems at all with kubuntu 14.04 when trying   
   it before moving away from Vista... the move from Vista was due to what turned   
   out to be really cruddy video drivers for the ATI video card that came with   
   the machine... still had similar problems with it and kubuntu but we sussed   
   that muckitymuck when we swapped out that card for NVIDIA...
