How can I tell if I'm south of the equator? Are there sign posts?

Well, I'm usually original bias... but... they had to change a big
plot point about the policeman because today's audience just wouldn't
buy it... and the plot fell apart from then on as they struggled to
justify the story and made a mess of it.
Plus, for some reason there was a sub-plot about Nick Cage's character
suffering visions before he left for the island (I think even before
the accident that caused them) which made no sense unless they were
trying to say the whole thing was a big delusion.
And the ending was different in the cinema.
