Well, Barton presumably paid for the ad - or Warner Bros. is getting a
piece of the action - so you can't blame a guy for trying to make a
buck. Especially in this economy. Granted *I* won't be buying one
anytime soon - even the base model costs more than my last car, but
   they're COOL.
Besides, if you flip over the ad there are more affordable pieces like
the 4-ft diameter C-57D spaceship, and table-top versions of Robbie.
It is actually worth visiting the site in any case, because Fred
Barton, the guy behind it, not only sells replicas, he is the man who
did the restoration of the surviving original Robby unit from the
movie (his replicas feature parts cast from the real one) and Robot B9
   from "Lost in Space"
   http://www.the-robotman.com/
Some of the items are available for rental for special events, as well
as for sale. The Robby replica is definitely going on my "if I ever
win the lottery list" But I probably couldn't stop there. Besides
Robby and B9, Barton offers pieces based on the robots from "Silent
Running", C3PO, Maria from "Metropolis", a couple of "classic" 50s
clunkers, RoboCop and two different styles of Cylon. (Sadly the
Number Six model is not one of them. )
