   Steve,
Lost in Space basically was the first of the Irwin Allen series. It
made Time Tunnel (mentioned as the most expensive), Voyage to the
Bottom of the Sea, and all his other shows possible. It also had to
contend with Batman at the time, so the interactions from the 'suits'
on LiS, Trek, etc. all were effected by ratings expectations from
   Batman.

As for SG1, B5, or even BSG, these were the next generation of stories
AFTER the pioneers. Also, these choice reflected on the spectrum of
shows, from very serious TZ, serious but entertaining Trek, and the
campy, almost children's show LiS. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but
fully realized that in an hour you weren't going to cover but a bit of
   the real territory.
