Only personal experience, but I'm a bigger SF nerd collector of
useless trivia than most people I know... and I only really know
Lensmen through comic trivia ("inspiration for Green Lantern").
Then again, I wouldn't say "Starship Troopers" had name recognition
and they paid money to add that name to a film in preproduction.
But with the audience that they'd want to sink the money in I think
that Babylon 5 and Firefly are bigger names, ATM. And we know that
Serenity didn't meet the expectation they have for these sort of
   films.
The success or failure of Green Lantern may have an effect, if you
push the "inspiration for GL" idea. If GL is Hulk, then it doesn't
help, and TPTB may even think hurts. If it is "Iron Man" then it
could help or hinder (may look too much like one of those cheap-rip-
   off cash-in films.
If production gets going the SF/movie gossip will promote the
knowledge of Lensmen a little, but not enough for a wide audience
   recognition that you'd want.
So it come back to Director/Actor/Promotion. And Director/Actor/
Promotion can hurt faithfulness to the source material.
