Two dead in landing gear bay of an A320

Two bodies were found in the landing gear of an Airbus A320neo from Avianca on
Friday evening during inspection work in the Colombian capital Bogota. It
concerns the discovery of two young men between the ages of 15 and 20 years.

Flight AV116 had departed from Santiago de Chile earlier in the day. According
to official information from the Colombian Civil Aviation Authority, two
people were found dead in the landing gear during the subsequent maintenance
   inspection.

The bodies found would have been frozen. Both men may have already crawled
into the landing gear bay earlier this month in the Dominican Republic.

It is more common for illegal immigrants to resort to hiding in the holds or
landing gear compartments of aircraft, a fact that often leads to tragedies
such as on Avianca flight AV116.

Higher altitude outside an aircraft is a deadly environment due to the extreme
cold and the ultra low oxygen levels.
