   Been there, done that too. Swapped out a Ford OD 3spd in my 51 Ford in a   
   restaurant parking lot covered in 'Pea' gravel. Damned if I didn't drop   
   that tranny on my hand before getting it into place. I had a black nailed   
   middle-finger on that hand for months after.

   December of 1970 on a cold day w/snow flying in a Flagstaff, AZ motel   
   parking lot, I R&Red the valve cover on one bank and removed both push   
   rods from one cyl. Then removed the spark plug on that cyl and drove that   
   damned thing to SD on 7 cyl!  One cam lobe went flat, which is typical of   
   BBC engines.
