So, since I was changing the wires, I       decided to save myself some time and change those, too.               MH> I assumed that they last longer due to most engines being fuel        MH> injected and computer controlled these days so there is less chance        MH> of running "too rich" or "too lean".               So it would seem. I rember at a Rochester carburator class back in the       Fifties being taught that if you didn't give the engine the gas supply going       uphill that it needed, the mixture would be rich and you'd sooner than later       be reachng for a can of top engine cleaner.               MH> Unless the original owner changed the plugs before 63k (which I        MH> doubt), they have never been changed. It has 145k on it right now.               MH> I ran my original plugs in my Monte Carlo over 100k, too. On that        MH> vehicle, I do have a distributor however.              I had a 1977 Monte Carlo. It was the last brand new car I bought and it was a       pleasure to drive. I remember turning down $10k for it in 1990, but I don't       regret doing that. The one thing I do regret is being told by the warranty       "genius" from GM, when I was told that the car had a "right lean" to it, which       meant it pulls slightly to the right and they wouldn't fix it under warranty       -- nor could they, probably, to get on the highway, he said, get up to 80MPH       and slam on the brakes. I never spoke to him again.                     Regards,              Roger        --- timEd/386 1.10.y2k+        * Origin: NCS BBS - Houma, LA - (1:3828/7)    |
