There were lines at        JH> all the gas stations and this is when we saw petro go over $1.00 per        JH> gallon. Believe me, I used to fill up my tank with about $10.00 so...              During that embargo, I drove a 1963 Corvette Roadster w/both tops. It had       a 1968 Corvette 350 engine that I had modded to around 430hp, drag raced       it 'off the street' at 13:10s, open the exhaust and rejet the carb to       attain 12.8s...it wouldn't burn anything less than 100 octane on the       street and sometimes it complained about that diet. Premium gas was way       over $1/gal in 1974. I didn't let that stop me from driving my favorite       car, but I survived the embargo by driving my 72 Cheyenne that only       required 87 octane and got better mileage than the Corvette as well.              I never went the foreign car route as it was engrained in my brain by my       dad to 'buy American'...which I still practice today. I've had an Isuzu       Rodeo in the recent past but I traded it for my 1979 Malibu, which is now       a race car.                      R\%/itt                      ,,,By the time you find greener pastures, you can't climb the fence!              --- Twit(t) Filter v2.1 (C) 2000-10        * Origin: SATX Alamo Area Net * South * Texas, USA * (1:387/1)    |
