RW>RW>Roy> No, it's more than that. When you use 110v at 10amps to run an
RW>RW>Roy> electric motor, it will cost you twice as much as a 220v motor,
RW>RW>Roy> because the 220v motor will use half the amps.

RW>RW>Right, but the wattage used is the same, and it's watt/hours you're bille

RW>RW>RW> Power used in Watts is equal to Amperage times Voltage.

   RW>TW> GOOD Recall

RW>YEs, so the cost of the juice might be close to the same.
RW>Maybe some difference due to voltage drop on long runs, more resistance, etc
   RW>That might be a factor.

RW>NOw I can buy that the 220v unit, as it's made for
RW>industrial strength use instead of home occasional use will
RW>have an overall lower cost of ownership over time all other

RW>But then again, maybe I'm missing something important there. TW> Roy can get
   RW>easily about Automobiles but Electrical/Electronics
RW>TW> in MY field and he is missing something in this discussion.

   RW>Possibly, or something I haven't considered yet.

You are not missin g anything. In the example Roy presented where the
110 unit would draw 45 amps of course a very heavy duty 110 circuit
with a 50 amp breaker would be required where as the 220 unit would only
   need a 30 amp breaker for it's 23 amps.
BUT the electrical power consumed in Watt Hours would be basicly the
   same.

Now as a prectical matter having a 50 amp 110 circuit could be a
   problem
Hence the popularity of the 220 circuits. NOT that it cost less
to run eauipment on 220 but that it is more practical in a Home for
   devices requiring large power sources.
