Is it an 80 or 79?              It's a 79, plain jane Malibu. The previously re-paint has patined into a       powdery coat, but it doesn't look too bad from 20 feet. The important part       is that the body is straight for its age.               MH> I used to have an 80 Malibu years ago. I loved that car, too.              The only difference is in the grill. 78 and 79 look similar, but the 80s       on up are different.               MH> Paid $300 for it and myself, brother, and friend put a 350        MH> transmission in it. That car lasted me along time. I drove it until        MH> the brake lines rusted and snapped on me one day. I should have kept        MH> it..              I agree.              This one, at the time of the photo, had a 305 engine and a 350 trans. It       was the engine and trans that came with the car with some modifications       that I made to make it run slightly better.              It has a Buick GN 8.5" rear end w/posi and 4.30 gears in it. I've removed       the AC, including what's under the dash, had the front end rebuilt and put       in an aluminum radiator. Nice thing was it came with a federal smog setup,       rather than the California CARB smog crappola. I put a Quadrajet carb and       Edelbrock intake and some headers on it and this was my basic reference       for the future.              It's best ET was 15.50 at almost 80mph. A slug in my book.              Now on the engine stand waiting installation is a 4bolt main 350 that I've       upgraded just a bit with 185cfm heads, w/Manley SS 2.02" intake and 1.6"       exhaust. A Lunati Bracket Master .480/.480 lift hydraulic cam...              The 350 stock out of the crate was rated at 290hp and I think it'll make       around 350hp now. I still have to pull the TH350 and put some new clutches       and steels in it, along with an upgrade to the valve body for firmer       shifts.              Part of the problem with the preliminary runs I made with the 305 was that       the column shifter was impossible to control with missed 2-3 shifts, which       led to some eratic runs. Leaving it in D wouldn't allow the engine to rev       more than 4000rpm. Manual shifting allowed the engine to rev to 5k...after       six runs, it blew a freeze plug at 800 feet and that was the end of my fun       that night.               R\%/itt               Fox News was not used as a source for information in this message!              --- Twit(t) Filter v2.1 (C) 2000-10        * Origin: SATX Alamo Area Net * South * Texas, USA * (1:387/22)    |
