December 1969 - Flagstaff, AZ: Heading home from a trip to Illinois in a
67 Malibu w/396, a cam lobe was going flat and that one cylinder was
fighting the others for air! Stopped in a motel for the night and the next
morning, in the snow, I went to the Chevy dealer and bought a valve cover
gasket. Went back and pulled the cover, removed the two pushrods and
closed it up. Then I removed the spark plug from that cylinder and drove
   it home on 7...

I did that too! A 1951 Ford with a 3spd OD, a little bit heavier than the
3spd. Dropped the trans on my middle index finger, which was located on
the drain plug at the time. Hurt like hexx and my fingernail turned black.
From then on, I used both knees to lift trannies in and out of cars while
   on the ground.
