RW> RW>> Why not solar panels? One could use those solar powered yard lights
RW> RW>> to charge small batteries.

RW> TW> Those Yard Light solar units can barelly charge a AA cell. Useless
   RW> TW> for a car battery.

RW>I have a couple of LED yard lights addapted to lighting a couple of those
RW>$1 plastic pumpkins sitting along the walkway to the house this year.

RW>If you connected those solar panels in series, they have the potential of
RW>trickle charging a small car battery. Not for use in a vehicle though,

It would require 12 panels in Series to get the required Voltage but
even then the charging current capability, about 100 MA would stil fall
   short.

Most maintainers are capability of 1250 MA and the smallest unit I have
seen sold for a car battery is 800 MA.

RW> TW> But for a vehicle stores i na Garage it would work. Onw woild need at
   RW> TW> least a 25 Watt solar panel, a 40 watt unit would be better, and a
RW> TW> Charge controller We are talking quite a bit more then the cost odf a
RW> TW> Batery tender though. The deal out there is the Harbor Freight Solar
RW> TW> panel kit at $190.00 It includes a 45 watt panel and a solar charge
   RW> TW> controller.

RW>I saw that at HF a few weeks ago. I wasn't that impressed with it for that
   RW>price though.

I quality 45 watt unit runs $250 top $300 for the panel and charge
   controller
