MH>Alldata does mention several special tools, but the only one that I think wo       MH>be of help is the slide hammer. That is what you are supposed to use to pul       MH>the axle from the transmission side. Otherwise, I would assume it would be       MH>just good old elbow grease. Yes, there is no point in repairing them, since       MH>you can get them already rebuilt for around the same amount of money. They       MH>aren't super expensive when rebuilt.              Thos special tools can be a killer. Back in the old Days one could       fairly make do with standard tools but typically no longer.       I changes a serpentien belt on a former vehicle, 1998 S-10 pickup,       without the "Special Tool" and really had a tough time doing it.              MH>I was thinking about something similar yesterday - that if I was unable to f       MH>a striker right away, I could try a hack of the current one. I would be hap       MH>if I could just get it to think the door was always closed - at least for th       MH>short term. It wouldn't be a big deal if it wasn't all wired into the facto       MH>alarm system which as I understand, it isn't really possible to de-activate       MH> Apparently, Ford/Mercury only made this particular striker for (2) years (1       MH>and 2000), and then changed the design. It has been discontinued at the       MH>factory and I know of no OEM. The striker has the door jam switch in it       MH>(electrical connector under a rubber boot).              Tahti s somethign that really irritates me. Two of my no longer owned       Subarus had factory alarms installed that could not be fully       De-Activated. I think the Alarmes are worthless myslef. I have never       seen anyone pay any attention to a car alarm going off in a parkign lot.       they jsut either go on until they time out or the battery goes deat it       seems.              ---        þ SLMR 2.1a þ Typo Tom strikes agaoin        * Origin: Since 1991 And Were Still Here!
