It is not easy to find decent        MH> vehicles these days for less than $4000.              Andrew and I went into San Antonio this morning to visit Harbor Freight,       an import tool store. On the way back, we stopped at a place that takes       old cars and rebuilds them, then asks thousands more for them than they're       worth. The new-looking 1968 Camaro RS/SS-396, 4spd coupe identical to mine       back in 1968 was priced at 10 times what I paid for mine. All I had to do       was cover one zero with my hand and the price was magically tranformed       to 'like new' in 1968 at $4350 ($43500)...               MH> I'm not in the market for a vehicle, but do watch the prices of Monte        MH> Carlos, Trans AMs, and a few other cars. I wouldn't mind buying one        MH> that is in perfect condition and everything works, but has a blown        MH> motor. If it could be purchased cheap enough, it would be worth        MH> dropping a rebuilt motor in there.              Make sure that you buy a southerun car, one that isn't from Florida and       no where near the Gulf coast. Texas cars, if they're found before the sun       bakes the paint off of them are OK, but you'll find a lot of surface rust       that has to be removed before you can paint it. Lots of dead roadhogs and       former muscle cars sitting along side of barns, garages and in fields       here.               MH> My wife is probably going to buy a new car in the next year or so.        MH> We will then have the truck as a spare - which is always handy to        MH> have.              8^) They come in handy for hauling stuff, towing stuff and seeing over       ordinary automobiles in heavy traffic...               MH> Did you have to get the GMC inspected before you transfered the        MH> title?              Nope. Texas requires a 'safety inspection' every year. The GMC was       recently registered and inspected and is good until March of 2013, so       won't need an inspection until then. A successfully passed inspection only       costs $14, and you're allowed to take it home and do any needed repairs       yourself if you want to and there is no charge for a re-inspection.              When I did my own pre-inspection of the Z28 in April, I found that it       needed a new windshield wiper to pass, so I bought one and put it on       myself. Tires (plenty of tread from low mileage) were good from being       stored in the garage, all lights and horn worked fine, so it was good to       go.               MH> In MD you have to do that - and they typically ding you for a        MH> few odds and ends.              You can't fix it yourself and go back?
