|    CV axle vs. transmission.    |

MH>My daughter took her car to a local mechanic and explained what it was doing       MH>with regards to lots of noise while driving and the shuttering under light       MH>excelleration and they told her it was the transmission. I totally disagree       MH>being I drove the car, know the noise is not being caused by the transmissio       MH>and the shuttering is due to bad joints of some sort in the CV axle (probabl       MH>the inner part).              MH>Anyway, was wondering what others think about this one here? BTW, the mecha       MH>never even looked at her car or drove it.              I say GET ANOTHER Mechanic. HE is trying to rip you off.       Another test you can do on the CV Joints is to find and empty parking       lot and acellerate using various steering angles. IF the noise inc       eases with increasing steering angles it is most likely a CV as the more       angle they have on them under power the higher the stress that is placed       o nthe joint. A bad one gets very noisy in a tight powered turn when       highly worn. I had that noise in one of the wifes car and I ignored it       until one day it broke when she was trying to make a U Turn. Luckly it       happened in the street in front of the house. :-) :-)       ---        þ SLMR 2.1a þ 0         * Origin: Since 1991 And Were Still Here! DOCSPLACE.TZO.COM (1:123/140)    |
