   ok so how do you propose to do that from a BBS? how can the proper characters   
   be sent to a logged in user's dumb terminal that cannot translate on its own?   
   AFAIK, you cannot... the BBS has to do the translation and the editor has to   
   work with what is sent to the user's terminal so the glyphs are properly   
   rendered in the editor as they are in the reader...
