   Bingo!  All three tests passed with flying colours.  First and foremost the   
   bash upgrade, secondly the long lines were preserved, and last but definetly   
   not least, the 0x8d trailing bytes in the 32-bit characters were not deleted   
   which means they are still valid utf-8 characters.  However I still cannot   
   view them due to the lack of a suitable consolefont but they did survive which   
   is always good thing.  :::patent pending:::
