   I have been using linux exclusively with messaging ever since the dialup BBS   
   went the way of the dodo bird which was sometime in 1997-ish maybe 1996-ish.    
   I am not sure.  After that I experimented with a few ideas off and on before   
   settling in with the current idea of doing everything with bash scripts, which   
   is what you're seeing in this reply ... as well as a few things that you're   
   not seeing given the offline format you are deploying.   
      
   Bottomline is that your editor doesn't seem to have any issues but instead the   
   BBS's you are dealing with.
