NB>> How far north of me are the ones in Ontario...?

MK> From my understanding the bulk of the fires are in the northeast on
MK> the Ontario side of the Ontario/Quebec border. However the major one,
MK> to the northwest of you, is just south of Sudbury and is (was?) the
MK> greatest threat to life and limb. At one point it threatened to shut
MK> down the Trans Canada highway. I haven't heard much about it since
MK> then which was about a week ago.

I had a look at the map... not all that close to me, thankfully. We've
heard nothing at all about those fires on our news, only about the ones
in California and to a lesser extent about the ones in Oregon... Maybe
by now the Sudbury one is contained....

MK> All I know is that they cannot spare
MK> any fire fighters to BC now that things are flaring up here.
MK> Apparently as of the last couple of days we are looking to import fire
    MK> fighters from abroad.

We've already been using National Guard troops, and I heard recently
that regular Army troops are being trained to go help fight the fires as
   well...

NB>> Is it worth a hike to the probable vicinity to see if they are
    NB>> still around....?

MK> No problem really since the hike is not much of a hike or at least it
MK> wasn't before the middle of May when I last spotted the local
MK> neighbourhood flock. I thought for sure they'd show themselves long
MK> before this. I have a bad feeling the slight increase in human
MK> activity this summer might have scared them off. Perhaps we were
MK> close to the tipping point prior to this season.

Possible. Maybe they moved farther away from the human activity...?
