Hey Nancy!               NB> not something that happens all often              Actually earthquakes happen quite often except few are the magnitude of the on       last Friday that had the potential of generating a tsunami. October 27th,       2012 at 8:50 PM 7.7 near Haida Gwaii generated a far reaching tsunami warning       but like the latest Alaska one was along an underwater slip-slide fault and       thus no major tsunami was generated. The offshore faults are all part of ye       olde Pacific Ring of Fire.               NB> Are you saying that the warning wasn't given out properly for        NB> this one...?              The only reason I heard about it was because I left the radio on and was       rudely awakened by it broadcasting the tsunami sirens located in Tofino (west       side of Vancouver Island) on the hourly news. I don't often leave the radio       on so it was just dumb luck that I got an advanced warning. For the record       Port Alberni also had their tsunami siren(s) blaring and it was reported that       most people in that area moved to higher ground in an orderly fashion by all       the accounts I heard. In the greater Ladysmith area no such siren went off       and after talking to the neighbours none of them went to higher ground even       though we were originally reported to be in the danger zone. Nobody I've       talked to is aware of any historical tsunami striking this part of the island       (east side).               NB> IIRC, this one was only a 7.2....?              Last I heard they agreed on 7.9 and was initially posted as an 8.2.              Life is good,       Maurice              ...
