Hey Nancy!               NB> Can't tell you on the Balvenie.... that's not one I've paid        NB> attention to... :)              I don't have any advantage there given that it was late 1997 when I tasted it       for the first and last time. That was almost exactly 20 years ago. The       cheapest one I can find today is more than 200 CAD. Also I saw two down in       the States, both bottled in 1980, that they are asking over 400 USD for. At       those prices I doubt either of us is going to take the plunge to find out       whether or not they are worth it. Speaking for myself I am guessing they       aren't but are probably fantastic if someone else is buying and sharing.               NB> Not that wikipedia is always right, of course              I haven't seen any confirmation or dispute by anyone 'in the know'. I am       content it is accurate enough for the discussion at hand.               NB> The latter, of course, being a known quantity for less... ;)        NB> You'll note that the Canadian distilleries produce Canadian malt        NB> whisky, not Scotch, though... ;)              According to the schpeil, if it was Scotch then it wouldn't be Canadian. From       my understanding it *must* be distilled in Scotland to carry the word 'Scotch'       on the label, else it is whisky which happens to be the case with Canadian       single malts. Likewise that Canadian single malts aren't restricted to barley       which in the case of Scotch it is.               NB> Out of sight, more likely out of mind              Not if we keep posting about it. ;-)               NB> Now you have a purpose for the imbibing...              Exactly. Before the 20xx-01-01 cybertoasts became officially sanctioned the       odds of there being anything to imbibe with were next to, if not exactly,       nil. Same with Nov. 5th not counting the practice round in 2016 and this       year's triad thinga-ma-jigger. If things go according to plan then it won't       be until 2024 ... not counting the 20xx-01-01 cybertoasts of course.               NB> And a reason to give for upping the ante a bit when the        NB> opportunity presents itself... ;)              Maybe an 18yo Glenlivet for 2024-11-05 and carry it over for at least the       following 2025-01-01 cybertoast. I seriously doubt the 15yo will survive       until then, as well as the 18yo surviving until 2034-11-05. Whatever will       more than likely get used up on 20xx-01-01 cybertoasts ... barring any       unforseen additional cybertoasts of course.              Life is good,       Maurice              ... Future cybertoasts of note:        2018-01-01 is 46 days from now and falls on a Monday.        2024-11-05 is 2546 days from now and falls on a Tuesday.       --- GNU bash, version 4.4.12(1)-release (x86_64-silvermont-linux-gnu)        * Origin: Pointy Stick Society - Ladysmith BC, Canada (1:153/7001.250)    |
