-=> Quoting Maurice Kinal to Nancy Backus on 06-Nov-2017 16:18 <=-               NB>> What age is that one...?               MK> It doesn't say. In fact when I looked it up on the internet they        MK> claim to be no longer giving that information and according to        MK> https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/p/18098/macallan-gold (and I quote);         MK> Macallan Gold was released in late 2012 as part of a series of        MK> colour-themed bottlings introduced to replace the distillery's        MK> age-statement expressions. Produced from 9-15yo first fill and        MK> refill sherry casks, it was designed to sit between the now-defunct        MK> 10yo Sherry Oak and 10yo Fine Oak bottlings.              Ah... so, a bottling from a variety of ages... probably more of the       younger end than the older, to have it be essentially approximately a       10yo... Interesting that they say the 10yo Fine Oak bottling is now       defunct... that's the one I finally finished off this year... ;)               MK> According to the label on the bottle;        MK> EXCLUSIVELLY MATURED IN OAK SHERRY CASKS FROM JEREZ, SPAIN        MK> Very good stuff and comparable to 12 year old Glenlivet and was only        MK> slightly more expensive, roughly ten dollars Canadian difference.               Must be enough of the 15yo to mellow it out... and little enough of it       that it doesn't command a premium price... ;)               MK> Given that I'd be inclined to return to tradition and purchase the 12        MK> year old Glenlivet next time. I am guesstimating that won't be        MK> happening for at least another year from now given that I still have        MK> the 15 year old for the 2018-01-01 cybertoast ... and probably beyond.               The Gold can help you space out the 15yo... ;)              It would appear that Macallan changed their mind about replacing the       age-stated bottlings with the colour-coded... or at least haven't fully       implemented it.... I just bought this year a 12yo Macallan, which I       haven't opened yet... first I had to finish off the 10yo Fine Oak, and       then I was given the leftover sampler bottles in September...                NB>> I'll be using one of the sampler Glenmorangies               MK> Excellent.              And indeed it was... :) I have left about a half-shot of the 10yo       Glenmorangie Original, and the same of the 12yo Quinta Rubin... it might       be interesting to mix the two for the upcoming toast... perhaps it will       be similar to the Macallan Gold.. ;)              ttyl neb              ... Wndows is jst finefor bacgrond telcomncations.              --- EzyBlueWave V3.00 01FB001F        * Origin: Tiny's BBS - http://www.tinysbbs.com (1:229/452)    |
