   Point taken.  Howver she is now the one claiming the favoured patrilineal   
   familiar position so perhaps the so-called threat - which never was serious   
   but was real in the sense that the school existed despite her nonbelief - had   
   a positive effect on her.  All I know for sure is that then, and now, they are   
   both dear and near to me and there was never any favouritism on my part   
   although I can see how others might see it that way.  She does have me   
   wondering if she believes that she is the favoured one.

   I never knew the family well enough to know one way or the other.
