Hello Maurice,              On Wed Oct 04 2017 22:01:02, Maurice Kinal wrote to Nicholas Boel:               NB>> VMs haven't seemed to install properly booting from a USB stick        NB>> in recent attempts, so I've been using the DVD-ROM as well as        NB>> just loading the ISO from the local drive.               MK> I've never tried booting a VM from USB stick but have recently booted        MK> a maintenence system from a usb flash drive using the usb3 addon card.        MK> Mostly I use it to copy development images I created to a regular sata        MK> drive (sometimes a ssd) and make it bootable for a targetted system.        MK> I was using it to create bootable uSD cards for the raspi3 via a card        MK> reader plugged into one of the ports on the addon card.              It's odd, I don't do anything different with the USB stick, besides hit F11       for the boot menu at startup and select the USB drive to be loaded from first.              Then I go through the same install procedure as I normally would, and when it       comes time to reboot into my newly created system, it hangs on boot because it       doesn't recognize any operating system. Wierd stuff, I tell ya!               NB>> I'm already looking into a couple more hard drives so I don't        NB>> have to worry about space in the near future.               MK> I have trouble filling up a single drive nevermind more. As we speak        MK> my latest custom build for a 8 core (single thread per core) C2758        MK> sits at around 750M for the root/boot system and around 800M for all        MK> the source, build scripts and latest packages built from the source        MK> and acripts. At this rate it would take forever for me to fill a        MK> terrabyte drive, nevermind multiple ones. However I do have backup        MK> drives although they probably need to be upgraded soon.              I plan on having one VM dedicated to a media server. So I'm sure at some point       I'll end up using up all my space. Unless I keep it clean and wipe what I       *think* we're done with (probably only to find out later we weren't really       done with it). Our kids will want to watch a movie they haven't seen in 6       months sometimes, so I have to be careful what I get rid of. ;)               NB>> Once I make that decision I may make some room to give LFS some        NB>> more of my time.               MK> Definetly well worth whatever space you dedicate to it ... and then        MK> some. These days 8G is more than enough free space to build a custom        MK> root/boot. I think between two terrabyte drives you should be able to        MK> find enough space for it.              I may not even use it for any kind of productive system whatsoever. I just       want to do it for the experience at the moment. Who knows, though. After I       actually complete it I may be interested enough to continue on with it.              Seems as though for the first time doing it, it will take extra long since I       need to go through the entire book (it's a big book!) to make sure I don't       miss anything. I've read the first 5-6 chapters and skimmed the rest a couple       of times now already just to get myself ready for what's to come. It's       definitely intimidating, but I'll eventually overcome when I have some free       time and the server is deployed full time. ;)              Regards,       Nick              ... "Не знаю.
