Hello Maurice,              On Wed Oct 04 2017 03:29:30, Maurice Kinal wrote to Nicholas Boel:               NB>> HP Proliant ML310e Gen8 server               MK> That looks pretty good from what I just read about it online. Speaking for myself I have been spoiled by usb3 hotswapping        MK> drives and would insist that any future motherboard be usb3 capable.              At the moment I don't really have much use for USB. VMs haven't seemed to       install properly booting from a USB stick in recent attempts, so I've been       using the DVD-ROM as well as just loading the ISO from the local drive. I've       been tinkering with both VMWare ESXi as well as Proxmox, both of which have       their own pros and cons as I think I'm going to go that route for the server       and worry about all my actual servers being separated and virtualized, rather       than in the past running and managing multiple servers on one OS. However, if       and when I do need it, I'd most likely go that route. I'm already looking into       a couple more hard drives so I don't have to worry about space in the near       future.               NB>> 3.3ghz Xeon quad core processor               MK> E3-1200 series. You should be getting 8 penguins on bootup given 2        MK> threads per core. :-)              Yep! I was looking at dual Xeon processor servers too, but the fact that it       was brand new still in the original packaging and the price of this Proliant       was just too good to pass up ($299).               NB>> 32gb ram               MK> A tad overkill but since it came with the system what the heck. I        MK> have 32gb ddr3 ecc ram on the server here which is likely what you        MK> have there. ecc is worth the additional expense but next time I'd        MK> probably settle for 16gb.              Yeah, most likely overkill, but on the other hand, I won't have to worry about       upgrading. ;)               NB>> I've never messed with a server before               MK> I prefer them to desktops.              It's growing on me fairly quickly. All I need a desktop for is my gaming       addiction. ;)               MK> The HP and Xeon E3 ought to be ready willing and able to do proper        MK> hardware swapping. Given what you now have a proper virtuallized        MK> network should be quite attractive I would think.              Agreed. I'm taking my time trying things out to see what I like, and so I       don't pick something I'll want to change soon after when I have a bunch of VMs       already setup. Once I make that decision I may make some room to give LFS some       more of my time. ;)              Regards,       Nick              ... "Не знаю.
