|    Announcing timEd 1.12!    |
|    21 Feb 18 12:38:00    |
Hi everyone,              Over the past couple of months I've spent considerable free time working on       rebuilding the original timEd sources using OpenWatcom 1.9 and getting it to a       point where it can be released as a new version.              Existing users of timEd 1.10 may want to migrate to 1.12.              In particular, Windows users currently using the DOS version might want to       consider using the new native Windows version.              New users are of course also welcome to try it out.              If so, please provide me with any feedback!                     Announcing the release of timEd version 1.12!               timEd is a reliable and fast message editor for FidoNet,        written by Gerard van Essen. It supports JAM, Squish,        Hudson and *.MSG message bases.               Added to this basis are many useful functions like nodelist        browsing, redefinable keys and macros, character translation,        support for encryption and spellchecking and many other things.               However, timEd is still a fast no-nonsense editor, giving you        speed and reliablity as it's major 'features'!              Note 1.12 is a "refreshed" version of timEd 1.10.              Version 7 nodelist lookup support has been removed from version 1.12 due to       licensing issues, but otherwise the program is fully-functional.              After many years, a 32-bit Windows NT version of timEd is now available.              Also, many Y2K bugs have been fixed since the 1.10 release.              The new version may be downloaded from here:              DOS version: http://dl.ozzmosis.com/timed/tim112.zip       Windows NT version: http://dl.ozzmosis.com/timed/tim112n.zip       OS/2 version: http://dl.ozzmosis.com/timed/tim112p.zip       DOS/386 version: http://dl.ozzmosis.com/timed/tim112x.zip              The source code to this release is available on GitHub:              https://github.com/zoomosis/artware                     timEd change log       ================              1.12       ----              * Version 1.12 released. This is considered a "refresh" release built        using OpenWatcom 1.9 and aside from the removal of V7 nodelist lookup        functionality (see below) should be feature-identical to the 1.10 version.               This version is built from a different code branch from the UNIX version,        1.11.               It is intended the branches will be merged in a future release, adding new        features from the UNIX version, and JAM and Hudson support to the UNIX        version.              * Numerous Y2K bugs were fixed in the source code, with thanks to Wilfried        Brinkmann and Tobias Ernst for their initial work with patching the timEd        binaries back in 1999 (ARTFIX07.ZIP).              * Windows NT port. Gerard van Essen began porting timEd to Windows NT in        1996 but the code was abandoned and incomplete. In 2018 the Windows NT        port was finally completed by Andrew Clarke and is considered to be        quite stable and usable.              * Fixes to prevent crashes when screen width is greater than 132 columns.              * timED did not add additional '>'s to quoted messages. Fixed, thanks to        Meikel Brandmeyer.              * Added %mmon variable for HELLO, REPHELLO, FOLLOWHELLO strings. It expands        to a two-digit month with a leading zero digit (ie. 01-12).              * V7 nodelist lookup is currently disabled.               The V7 lookup functions requires the Mix C Database Toolchest, a        commercial library which cannot be distributed as open source.               It is still possible to do nodelist lookups on FidoUser or FrontDoor        format nodelists.               Any reference to V7 nodelists in TIMED.DOC is currently erroneous and        should be ignored.               It is hoped to reintroduced this functionality in a later version.              * timEd is now permanently "registered", and will declare itself registered        with the name specified in TIMED.CFG.              * timEd's version number and build timestamp can now be viewed by running        timEd with the -v parameter:               TIMED.EXE -v                     Regards       Andrew              --- timEd/NT 1.12+        * Origin: Blizzard of Ozz, Melbourne, Australia (3:633/267.1)    |
