   10. Vintage Recipes

   Here's a recipe from Doris P:   
      
   Oatsies   
      
   2 cups oats   
   1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)   
   1/2 cup butter melted   
   1/4 cup dark corn syrup   
   1/2 teaspoon salt   
   1 teaspoon vanilla   
   1 pkg (6 oz) semi-sweet choc. chips melted 1/4 cup chopped nuts   
      
   Heat over to 400 degrees. Greas baking pan 9x9x2. In medium bowl, mix oats and   
   brown sugar.  Stir together butter, syrup, salt and vanilla, mis thoroughly   
   into oat mixture.  Press dough evenly in bottom of pan.  Bake 8-10 minutes or   
   until top bubbles.  Cool, then spread chocolate on top.  Sprinkle nuts onto   
   chocolate and chill one hour. Cut into bars about 2x1.  32 cookies.

   Here's one submitted by Deb J:   
      
   Candy Cane Cookies   
      
   Mix: 1/2 cup shortening, 1/2 cup butter, 1 cup powdered sugar, 1 egg, 1 1/2   
   tspn almond extract and 1 tspn vanilla   
      
   Sift: 2 1/2 cups flour and 1/2 tspn salt; stir into butter mixture. Divide   
   dough in two, add 1/2 tspn red food coloring to 1/2 of mixture.   
      
   Shape into 4 inch thin logs, then twist a red and a white together, shaping   
   into a cane shape.  Bake 9 minutes at 375 on an ungreased pan.
