A Vintage Recipe Be sure to check out our vintage recipe archive online       at: http://www.tias.com/newsletter/topics/A%20Vintage%20Recipe.html              Over 1200 wonderful vintage recipes are listed. Last week Pat asked:              "Hi Phil, I grew up in Middle Village, NY. When it got really hot in the       summertime, my mother would use elbow macaroni and whip up some tasty cold       pasta salads that we would eat for lunch or dinner. Sometimes she would add       shrimp, sometimes she'd add chicken, and I remember some having mayo, but       others without mayo (I guess it was easier to keep the ones without mayo when       it was really, really hot!). Since it seems to be hot in almost every part of       the country, (and who feels like eating a hot meal in this weather???), I       thought I'd ask if anyone has some vintage elbow macaroni salads, without       mayo."              Anne W. sent in this recipe for       DOCÇÖS PASTA SALAD       2 c. cooked small shell pasta       1 c. diced yellow pepper       1 1/2 c. grape tomatoes, quartered 1/2 c. Kalamata olives, chopped       2 c. steamed asparagus       2 T. capers       1/4 c. sliced green onions              Dressing:       1/3 c. orange juice       3 T. white wine vinegar       2 T. water       1 T. olive oil       2 tsp. Dijon mustard       1/4 tsp. pepper       1/8 tsp. salt       Cook pasta. Toss with vegetables. Toss with dressing. Serves 6 This is       really good and you can use whatever vegetables you prefer. Sometimes I use       broccoli or green peas in place of the asparagus.       ------------              10. A vintage recipe request from a reader:              "Hi Phil, Can you ask your readers if any of them have a recipe for Sloppy       Joes that includes brown sugar or some ingredient that is on the sweet side?        I remember that my best friend's mom always made them and they were a little       bit sweet so I'm assuming it had brown sugar, but I might be wrong so if any       of your readers have any suggestions I'd love to try it. Thanks so much and I       love the newsletter! Lydia K."              As with collectibles, people also have very strong feelings about foods from       their past. Sometimes these special recipes get lost. This section is to       help people who are looking for lost recipes from their past. If you submit a       request, please include the geographical region where you tasted the recipe.       --       If you can help this reader with this recipe, please forward it to       phil@bignews.biz . If you have a vintage recipe request send it to       phil@bignews.biz and we might just publish it here.
