Thanks, Carol!              Bread & Butter Pickles              One gallon of cut up spiny cucumbers (the bumpy kind) in slices 2 red or       yellow Bell peppers (sliced in rings) 4 cups of onions (sliced in rings)       3 gloves of garlic (chopped)       1/3 cup non-iodized salt       5 cups sugar       3 cups vinegar       1 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric       1 1/2 teaspoon celery seed       2 Tablespoons mustard seed       1 1/2 teaspoon pickling spice              Combine cucumbers, onions, garlic, peppers and salt; (I place them in my       dishpan) mix well and cover with ice and let stand in refrigerator for 3       hours. Then remove ice and drain well. Pack into jars (makes 4 quarts or 8       pints). Combine sugar, vinegar, turmeric, celery seed, mustard seed, and       pickling spice. Stir until sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil, pour over       cucumbers in jars then pour back into pan, bring to boil again and pour back       into jars. Clean the rims of all liquid and seal with flats and rings. Place       on counter, cover with towel (to keep drafts of cool air from hitting them)       until sealed.              9. As with collectibles, people also have very strong feelings about foods       from their past. Sometimes these special recipes get lost. This section is to       help people who are looking for lost recipes from their past. If you submit a       request, please include the geographical region where you tasted the recipe.        If you have a vintage recipe request send it to recipes@tias.com and we might       just publish it here.              TIAS.com merchants have well over 4,000 cookbooks for sale!
