Hi, For the woman who asked what might be the glue used in an old scrapbook:              Your relative might have used homemade Wallpaper Paste, which you can make by       cooking flour and water together. Wallpaper has been in use for hundreds of       years, and we didn't always have Elmer's glue! Here's a recipe for Wallpaper       paste:              Homemade Wallpaper Paste Recipe               1 1/2 cups white flour        1/2 cup sugar        1 Tbsp alum*        3 cups of water              Combine flour and sugar. Slowly add 1 cup of cold water and beat out any       lumps. Put mixture in a saucepan. Add 2 cups of water. Stirring constantly,       bring the mixture to a boil on medium heat. When stiff, remove from heat and       add alum. Store in an airtight container. It should keep several weeks. If       the paste hardens, soften by mixing in small amounts of warm water as needed.              *Alum is a pickling spice found in the spice section of your store.       It's a preservative.              Linda F.       --              In those days when I was a kid, we used flour and water paste. If we were       lucky, there was something called mucilage(spelling?). Also, egg white could       be used.       Rose H.       --       Here's an anonymouse email:       I have two ideas:       1. Milk glue. The recipe follows. It is a strong holder. As can be        seen. I got the recipe online.       2. Flour paste. This is simply water and flour mixed together dabbed        on a paper sheet for sticking other papers to the sheet. I used        this as a child.              1. Milk glue       What you need:       Milk       White vinegar       Baking soda       PanWater       Strainer              Instructions              Heat 1 and a half cups of milk in a pan. once warm add 3 teaspoons of white       vinegar. Keep heating and stirring the mixture and you should see the curds       (solid part ) and whey ( liquid part ) separate              Strain the mixture using a sieve. You should be left with solid lumps which       you can mould together to make a ball. These are the curds.              Place the solid mixture back in the pan and add a little water and a       tablespoon of baking soda.              Heat the mixture until it starts to bubble.Give it a good stir and let it       cool. You can now use it as glue. You might need to add a little more water       or baking soda until you get the right consistency. It should look like a       thick paste.       --              Beth Ann A is looking for a specific stuff animal for her daughter: Hi, I hope       you can help me! I am looking for a very specific stuffed animal. My daughter       plays with it at her preschool and desperately wants Santa to bring it for       Christmas, but after searching online and calling the manufacturer, I cannot       find one It is Hugfun International brand, and it is a stuffed chihuahua with       two outfits. They were sold at Family Dollar a couple years ago under the name       Uptown Pets. I will attach a few photos I found on some listings on ebay that       had already sold.              We've posted pictures of similar items here: https://www.faceboo       .com/TIASAntiques/posts/10152924619493656              If you can help Beth Ann, please email newsletter@tias.com.       --------------------------              --- BBBS/Li6 v4.10 Dada-2        * Origin: Prism bbs (1:261/38)    |
