Colorado there is an issue of persons who appear to have more money       than brains coming in to the area. In the past few years, they have purchased       historic property, ( home steds on which the area one room school had been       placed, & recenlty a "Centennial farm") A "Centennial Farm" is one which is       owned by the same family for 100 years or more. In the case of the home       steded farm in which the local one room school had been placed, the new owner       bulldozed & then torched all the structures. In 2010 my uncle,( my father's       kid brother had my grand parents farm declared a centennial farm. There was a       plack noting this distinction on the gate. Recently my uncle, sold my       grandparents farm to some one who had no appreciation for the history of the       area or the fact that there is need for housing in the area. The new owner       had a "skip loader taken to my grand parents home, which had been remolded in       1995 as well as the house that had been built for my parents in 1948, & then       torched every structure on the farm, including the huge drive through potato       cellar, & the sturdy granary. There is a large museum about 5 miles away that       is collecting older buildings, from the area, but persons from out side the       area continue to destroy the history of the area. For years, there are       persons in many parts of the United States who have moved housed which are in       the way of freeway & other construction to new locations & restored them to       comfortable homes. Your readers who are in possession of family heirlooms       should not be surprised when family members show no interest in what we       collectors consider memorable voluble possessions. However, there are others       of us who do enjoy & treasure these things."              --------------------------              --- BBBS/Li6 v4.10 Dada-1        * Origin: Prism bbs (1:261/38)    |
