A Vintage Recipe              Be sure to check out our vintage recipe archive online at: http:       /www.tias.com/newsletter/topics/A%20Vintage%20Recipe.html Over 1200 wonderful       vintage recipes are listed.              Last week we wondered if anyone had taken an old "on the back of the box"       recipe and updated it successfully to make it a little healthier by today's       standards. Here's one from Carol T. It's for a Sweet Potato Cassarole her       grandmother used from the back of a can of sweet potatoes. Carol reduced both       the white and brown sugars, the butter and the amount of evaporated milk       without having impact on the taste. Thanks Carol!              Sweet Potato Casserole       3 cups sweet potatoes (mashed up)       3/4 stick butter       1 small can evaporated milk       1 1/2 cup sugar       2 eggs       1 teaspoon cinnamon       1 teaspoon vanilla              Mix together & bake at 425 for 30-45 minutes.              Topping       1 cup finely crushed corn flakes       1/2 cup finely chopped pecans       1/2 cup brown sugar       3/4 stick butter              Melt butter, stir in all ingredients spread evenly on top & bake 15-20 minutes       at 375.                     *Note - the recipes are submitted by fellow Collectors Newsletter       readers and are not checked for accuracy or tested by the TIAS staff. Keep in       mind that many of these recipes were created at a time when there were no       worries about such things as raw eggs, for example - so modern kitchen safety       should prevail.              8. As with collectibles, people also have very strong feelings about foods       from their past. Sometimes these special recipes get lost. This section is to       help people who are looking for lost recipes from their past. If you submit a       request, please include the geographical region where you tasted the recipe.              Does anyone else have a not-so-healthy vintage recipe that they've updated?                     "There was no response a while ago when I asked, but maybe someone new is       looking today??.....There was a recipe in one of the early Country Wife or       Farm Wife News in the 60's or 70's, I believe, the "newspaper style" one, for       Pot de Creme. A very simple recipe, maybe cream, heated, chocolate chips, and       something else? Would anyone have that? Tired and REtired Sandi"                     If you have a vintage recipe request send it to recipes@tias.com and we might       just publish it here.              TIAS.com merchants have well over 4,000 cookbooks for sale! You can       see them here: http://www.tias.com/books/cooking/              Be sure to check out our vintage kitchen collectibles section online at:       http://www.tias.com/showcase/1/Kitchen_Collectibles/1.html              --------------------------              --- BBBS/Li6 v4.10 Dada-1        * Origin: Prism bbs (1:261/38)    |
