Last week we asked for your favorite vintage Potato Salad recipe. Here's one
from Carol T. Thank you, Carol!

   Potato Salad

2 lbs. potatoes (5 to 6 medium), peeled and cut into 3/4-inch chunks 1/2 cup
   Real Mayonnaise
   1 Tbsp. vinegar
   1 tsp. salt
   1/2 tsp. sugar
   1/4tsp. ground black pepper
   1/2 cup thinly sliced celery
   1/2 cup chopped onion
   1 Tbsp. dill relish
   2 hard-cooked eggs, chopped

Cover potatoes with water in 4-quart saucepot; bring to a boil over
medium-high heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer until potatoes are tender,
about 10-15 minutes. Drain and cool slightly. Combine Mayonnaise, vinegar,
salt, sugar and pepper in large bowl. Add potatoes, celery, relish, onion and
eggs and toss gently. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

Marilin G. sent in an old recipe she found:

"Good evening. I enjoy reading the newsletter, and especially enjoy the
vintage recipe section. This evening I was CÇ£sifting throughCÇØ some old
recipes - many of them written on scraps of paper. One really struck my funny
bone as I read to the end of it, and thought ICÇÖd share it with you. Below
is exactly as it appears on a very fragile, yellowed paper ..."

   Pie Plant Wine.

   10# pie plants
   10# sugar
   2 1/2 gallons water

let stand 10 days stirring every day

Then strain and press out juice. add sugar raisins and yeastcake let stand 30
days stirring each day. strain off put in bottles Do not cork up tight Just

Editor's Note: Anyone have a clue as to what "Pie Plant" is??

*Note - the recipes are submitted by fellow Collectors Newsletter
readers and are not checked for accuracy or tested by the TIAS staff. Keep in
mind that many of these recipes were created at a time when there were no
worries about such things as raw eggs, for example - so modern kitchen safety
   should prevail.

   8. As with collectibles, people also have very strong feelings about foods
from their past. Sometimes these special recipes get lost. This section is to
help people who are looking for lost recipes from their past. If you submit a
request, please include the geographical region where you tasted the recipe.

We didn't receive any requests for vintage recipes this week. Care to share
your mom's best potato salad or deviled eggs recipes, or maybe Baked Beans
that don't come out of a can? Seems fitting for this time of year!

If you have a vintage recipe request send it to recipes@tias.com and we might
   just publish it here.

TIAS.com merchants have well over 4,000 cookbooks for sale! You can
