   Can anyone help identify this item for one of our readers?   
      
   "I work in a house museum, and we are in the process of cataloging all of the   
   items in the house.  The attached pictures show an item which was found in a   
   kitchen drawer.  Could you please ask your readers if anyone knows what this   
   item was used for.  We suspect it might have been used in canning but are not   
   sure and would like to have a more definitive answer.  Thanks, Gerald B"
