"My husband recently passed away. My great-granddaughter always came to visit
us. She is 5 years old. She saw his old worn out shoes in the trash and
asked why I threw them out. I told her that he was in heaven and didn't need
them anymore. She thought for a second and said that I could use them. When
I told her they were too big for me, she immediately said 'But Ma, you could
grow into them!" (I am 72 years old). Thanks for letting me share this.

   WANTED: Woman's Home Companion - December 1914
   http://pages.tiasexchange.com/1618605/PictPage/3924068557.html

WANTED: "As a child in the 1950's living in small town and rural
areas, many of our Christmas gifts were ordered from catalogs -- JC Penneys,
Montgomery Wards, and Sears & Roebuck. My sister and I got a new doll, with a
wardrobe, every year. Eventually we learned the dolls came from catalogs with
nothing but underwear. The wonderful wardrobes were made by our mother -- I
still can't imagine how she found the time to make all those clothes in
addition to all her duties as the mother of 5 children. About 10 to 12 years
ago I was at a small bookstore (now gone) and found books with "reprints" of
some of those catalogs in the "antiques & collectibles" section. There were
pictures of dolls and toys I recognized. The books were large format,
approx. 8" x 10", softcover books, too expensive for me. A year or two later
I was in the store and asked about the books. They had no idea what I was
talking about. Recently I've tried to find the books online, searching under
anything I can think of, and including sources of "out of print" books. There
are reproduced catalogs on other subjects, but not toys from the 1950's or
early 1960's. If you have any idea how I could find these books, or find
someone who has them and is willing to copy a few pages for me, just for my
own use, that would be great. While I'm at it, I'd also love to find the
patterns for some of the doll clothes Mom made for 8" Ginny dolls, 12" "Little
Miss Revlon" (who came with a bra & girdle and much more realistic proportions
than Barbie dolls a few years later), 8" baby "Ginnette", and some larger
dolls. I've got a few patterns, but there are some specific patterns still
missing. I used to get several doll collector's magazines, still get one, but
haven't found the old patterns, just new ones. Thank you for any help you are
able to give me. Jacque ("Jackie")"

(editor's note: we sent Jacque some links to TIAS dealers who sell doll
patterns but if any of you have any ideas of how to help her find the books or
patterns that she is looking for, drop us an email and we will forward them to
   Jacque)
