      9. A Vintage Recipe              Be sure to check out our vintage recipe archive online at: http:       /www.tias.com/newsletter/topics/A%20Vintage%20Recipe.html              Over 1200 wonderful vintage recipes are listed. Our most recent request, from       Melissa N., asked for vintage recipes that can be served at a "vintage"       Halloween party where everyone was dressing up in costumes from the 20's,       30's, 40's, 50's & 60's. We received the following recipe:              "Hi Phil, this isn't a recipe per se, but my Mom used to do this for us every       Halloween. She'd take cooked frankfurters and break them in half (she       wouldn't cut them, she'd break them so they'd have a bit of a shredded end).        Then, I think, she'd use a knife to make them look like severed fingers-she'd       cut out where the nail bed would be and then cut little lines for the       knuckles. Then she'd lay them on a plate with ketchup in a puddle at the end       of each jagged end to make it look like blood. Kim P."              "Here is a recipe for a Halloween sangria. If it comes out right it will look       like a hand is floating in the sangria ingredients 3 Latex gloves Filtered       water (enough to fill latex gloves)              3 cups Sparkling water       2 bottles Dry red wine       3 cups orange juice       3 oz Brandy       3 tbsp Brown sugar       2 Fresh oranges, thinly sliced       2 Fresh pink grapefruit, thinly sliced 2 Fresh lemons, thinly sliced       2 Fresh limes, thinly sliced       1 cup natural sour cherries in syrup              The night before the party, fill the latex gloves with some filtered water and       put a rubber band around the end so the water can't escape and then put them       in the freezer to freeze overnight. Before the party begins, combine all of       the ingredients (except for the latex gloves and filtered water) in a large       punchbowl. Take the latex glove off of the "ice hand" and lay it in the       punchbowl so it looks like a hand is floating. Dory"              ------------              10. A vintage recipe request from a reader:              "Hi Phil, My husband's mother used to make homemade mayonnaise but he lost the       recipe during the many moves he made while in the Air Force. The ones we've       tried from cookbooks just aren't what he remembers. Would your readers have       any vintage recipe(s) that may work for him? Thanks much, Carol A. Green       Valley Az."              If you can help this reader with this recipe, please forward it to       phil@bignews.biz . As with collectibles, people also have very strong       feelings about foods from their past. Sometimes these special recipes get       lost. This section is to help people who are looking for lost recipes from       their past. If you submit a request, please include the geographical region       where you tasted the recipe.       --              If you have a vintage recipe request send it to phil@bignews.biz and we might       just publish it here.              --              Be sure to check out our vintage kitchen collectibles section online at:       http://www.tias.com/showcase/1/Kitchen_Collectibles/1.html       -------------       --------------------------              --- BBBS/Li6 v4.10 Dada-1        * Origin: Prism bbs (1:261/38)    |
