If so, do you use vintage items to add to your       costume? If you do, tell us about it and if you have any photos, we'd love to       see them! Send us an email to Phil@BigNews.biz so we can share your story       with the rest of our readers.              In our last newsletter we asked:              Halloween is right around the corner. Before you know it Thanksgiving,       Hanukkah and Christmas will arrive. Do you have any vintage decorations that       you use to decorate your home? Are there any specific memories that you have       about certain decorations? Here are some responses that we received:              "Around 1959 (I was 7 years old), my auntie gave my mother some Xmas tree       decorations as she was moving house. Some were round plastic (very modern!)       with twisted frames with centers of stars, snowflakes, Art Deco style deer etc       and came in pastel shades of pink green blue and clear. There were also       plastic icicles and some very unusual and much loved glow in the dark cherubs       and some plastic stars that slotted together to make them 3D. They sound       tacky but they were actually very pretty. We used these for many years to       dress a little artificial Xmas tree which I looked forward to with so much       excitement...it meant Xmas had nearly arrived ...and that was a magic time!        Eventually we bought modern new sparkly ones and the old ones were       discarded....thrown away in the 1970s....or so I thought. About three years       ago I saw a tin of Xmas decorations in an old biscuit tin at a jumble sale.        There were identical decorations to our old ones plus a few more....I was       really happy to find them .... then I found the glow in the dark cherubs       underneath.... was it a coincidence? Were these our actual original       decorations? Where did they come from? There were no charity shops back then       to donate stuff too...maybe they were given away by my mum to someone       else.....I honestly don't know but I'm not giving these beauties away .....or       selling them as these decorations are now apparently very collectable!!!        Oh...and apart from the little cherubs, the Art Deco leaping deer is ...and       was ALWAYS my favorite! They are a wonderful reminder of glorious Xmases       spent in a crowded house full of friends and family....playing silly       games....opening presents in front of the fire at Midnight because I was too       excited to wait till morning! Mum and my 'aunties' having a sherry in the       kitchen whilst cooking the turkey....dad and my 'uncles' reminiscing about the       war (they were all RN engineers) with a whiskey in the living room. I used to       listen to them talk about their heroic exploits in exotic sounding (to a child       at least) places like Sidi Barani, Bardia, Gib, Malta, Singapore...and China!        Happy days NOT spent in front of the television...except for the Queen's       Speech! Now all I need to find is the little Xmas tree in its red wooden       pot....!!! Kind regards, Sheena Southsea, ENGLAND."       --------              "I love old and vintage items and for the different holidays I decorate with       these items. Here is a photo of some of my Halloween decorations. The       celluloid bobble head dog is not really Halloween but he is scary to me.        Paulette"       Here are two photos of Paulette's decorations: http://on.fb.me/19qoAz2              Thanks to those of you who have been responding! We really enjoy, and       appreciate, the feedback!       ---------       -----------------------------------------------------------------              --- BBBS/Li6 v4.10 Dada-1        * Origin: Prism bbs (1:261/38)    |
